From the Regent….

Hello and welcome to our website. I’d like to thank you for your interest in Theta Tau Professional Engineering Fraternity and take this opportunity to introduce you to the chapter here at Tennessee Tech and the Fraternity at large.

Theta Tau was founded in 1904 at the University of Minnesota. What began as a group of four men dedicated to the profession of engineering and the idea of brotherhood had now grown into the largest engineering fraternity in the country.  Theta Tau is unique in many ways. We are a professional fraternity. This means that we strive to incorporate the best characteristics of social fraternities, technical societies, and service organizations. We are also co-ed.  This is an amazing benefit to our brotherhood. These qualities allow us to be a diverse group of people with a broad range of talents and skills.  Theta Tau can honestly boast that those chosen for brotherhood are the best caliber of individual.

The chapter at Tennessee Tech is Lambda Beta. When it was official recognized by the university as a fraternity in 1968, it became the very first greek organization on campus. The chapter strives to help its members become well-rounded leaders in the field of engineering and in the community around them. To do this Lambda Beta hosts a variety of professional development, social, and leadership activities. Upon graduation, the main goal for a new engineer is to get noticed, to have something that the other job candidates don’t. This is the overall goal of Theta Tau.

The brothers at Lambda Beta increase their knowledge of the engineering profession by going on plant tours, inviting guest speakers from our alumni base, and using our contacts to help each other with co-op and job opportunities. Another aspect to our professional development program is leadership. We strive to produce leaders. Our brothers are active in the Engineering Joint Council and the Student Government Association. The national fraternity organization holds leadership academies to help each member hone their own style of leadership.  We also know that the best leaders must serve. We strive to give back to our community through a variety of projects. Habitat for humanity, Angel Tree, and the maintenance of Hidden Hollow has been our largest projects to date.

As you can tell, Brotherhood is the key to Theta Tau. We are looking for individuals who want to forge strong bonds of fraternal fellowship, to develop lifelong friendships, and who want to see each other succeed. The qualities we are looking for are honesty, integrity, openness, and passion about our common goals. If you decide to enter our pledge process, and if you are chosen to become a full brother, we will build these bonds through sports, study, social activities, and just being there for each other. Our brothers are an extremely close group who are always looking for the next generation of brother to continue our friendship and goals.

If this interests you please do not hesitate to contact myself or any of our brothers, all of our contact information is on this website. We have brothers in every department in the College of Engineering so odds are you probably already know some of us. Look for our fliers advertising our events and come out. We look forward to meeting you and getting to know you and maybe welcoming you into Theta Tau.
