Ronald McDonald House
The Ronald McDonald House is Alpha Delta Pi’s international philanthropy. Since 1979, Alpha Delta Pi has contributed over $2,000,000 nationally and countless hours toward this important cause. With each passing year, the ladies of Alpha Delta Pi, both collegiate and alumnae members, seek community minded support to help ensure the continued success of the house and its service to families and children in need.

The purpose of the Ronald McDonald House is to simply provide a “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Some children have to travel great distances to get the medical attention they need. In-hospital treatment may last one day, one year, or even longer. For the families of these children, accommodations can be hard to come by; options are often limited to costly hotels or unforgiving hospital chairs and benches. The Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable, supportive alternative for these families. It serves as a temporary residence near the medical facility where family members can sleep, eat, relax and find support from other families in similar situations. In return, families are asked to make a donation ranging from $5 to $20 per day; if that isn’t possible, their stay is free.

Our sorority visits the Ronald McDonald Houses in Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Nashville. We have a philanthropy event each semester to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. In the fall, we have Diamond Heist. It lasts for three days that include events such as an obstacle course to steal a diamond, the sisterhood search, and the Pi Prison. The Pi Prison is the main fundraiser of Diamond Heist week. This past year, we raised almost $3,000 with the help of greek associations, students, and faculty members. This year during the spring semester, we had an event called Pie at a Pi to raise money for the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Students could throw pies at Alpha Delta Pi sisters for $1 and at certain faculty members (including Mark Wilson, Mark Burnett, and Dean Boucher) for $2. Along with the pies, we had a bake sale and had planned to have a pie eating contest. Over all, we raised over $300 dollars!

Although a lot of our volunteer and fundraising efforts are focused on the Ronald McDonald House, we also help other local charities. These include the Genesis House, Helping Kids Cope, The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Putnam County and many others. We also enjoy participation in the philanthropic events sponsored by other Greeks (fraternities and sororities) on campus.
